A general valuation is required to be undertaken at least once every 4 years in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act.
The first general valuation in terms of this legislation was released in February 2008 and that Roll became effective for rating purposes on 1 July 2008.
EThekwini Municipality released its second General Valuation (GV2012) on 10 February 2012 and it will remain open for Objections until 30 March 2012. Rates will be raised from this new Roll from 1 July 2012.
The Valuation Roll contains more than half a million property entries, the vast majority of which fall within the Residential Rating Category.
The Municipality’s Call Centre 031 324 5000 will also be able to provide a caller with details of their property valuation.
