More than 500 senior citizens from Ward 27 were treated to music and traditional dances at a Municipal Christmas party at the City Hall recently. Councillor Nompumelelo Chamane said, “We decided to invite senior citizens to celebrate an early Christmas with us. “They are important in our lives and our country is respected today because of them. They fought for us and we will always be grateful.” Councillor Khanyisile Mthembu urged the senior citizens to support Councillors in their work and reminded them to report problems to their Councillors.
Winnie Mtheku (60) of Gordge Road, Glenwood said, “What touched me the most was meeting my former classmates. “We got to reminisce about the old days. This will be a Christmas to remember.” Each senior citizen received a food parcel, but as if to prove the truth of the old adage, “it’s better to give than receive”, they also donated a total of R1 835 towards the travel costs of the Singabakho Music Group, a visually impaired group from Albert Park. Ward 27 Councillor Avrille Coen said, “I am touched by the generosity and spirit showed by the senior citizens. Thank you for everything.”
