Safety and Security includes emergency services and Metro police services.
The Cluster is divided into the following Units:
Metropolitan Police - dealing with bylaw enforcement, traffic policing and ensuring eThekwini citizens feel safe and secure.
Emergency Services - directs and manages the Emergency Services Unit including fire services, emergency communications and loss control and disaster management services.
Disaster Management - eThekwini, being a coastal city with a large manufacturing base, is at risk and vulnerable to a range of technological, natural, man-made and environmental disasters. These disasters pose a threat to the development objectives of the Municipality. It is therefore important that disaster management principles are taken into account during the planning processes. The Municipality has implemented disaster risk management measures which aim to minimize the effects of disasters. In this regard communities are educated and trained to recognize the importance of disaster management and formal emergency services are also extended to residents.
